General maintenance and responsible handling guidance for handmade knives.
Every handcrafted knife can have different blade steel, finish and handle materials. Specific instructions supplied by Ted with an individual knife take priority over general care guidance on this page.
Natural handle materials, patina and different steel finishes may require individual care. Some steels can discolor or corrode when left wet. If you’re unsure whether a change is normal, or what oil or maintenance method suits the knife, ask Ted before applying a product or attempting refinishing.
A dull or damaged blade may need professional attention. Avoid improvised repairs that could damage the knife or make it unsafe. Email truepointknives@gmail.com with a photograph and description if you’re unsure how to maintain a specific True Point piece.
